"Grote Optoch" 2025 in Sittard

The annual "Grote Optoch" is a Carnival parade of exceptional quality that will pass through the city centre of Sittard on Sunday 2 March.

The parade is expected to attract a large crowd of 80,000 people to the city centre of Sittard. This highlight of the "Vastelaovend" (Carnival) will feature a spectacular and colourful parade with large floats, dressed-up groups and individuals with painted faces, as well as marching bands. More than 3,000 participants will entertain the public with comical themes and introduce their funny and original themes and ideas. The parade is also famous for the interaction with the spectators. You will be introduced to the typical Sittard "laammaekerie" (mockery), which is often aimed at current local and national political and social issues.

The Sittard "Optoch Kommitee" (Parade Committee) sees to the quality of this parade and guarantees the pure creativity and craftsmanship that has made the Sittard Carnival parade so popular. A jury will assess the originality of the ideas, the colours used and the way in which the themes are presented and executed by the participants and floats. Prizes for several categories will be awarded at approximately 6 p.m. on the Market Square.
