Since 2023, Arriva’s shared bikes have been available in Sittard-Geleen. Residents and visitors can use the shared bikes for a fee.

The shared bike concept is part of the municipal ambitions in the field of mobility.

Arriva has evaluated the use of their shared bikes in 2024. Overall, the evaluation is positive. Usage increased by 46% in 2024, with the total number of rides reaching over 5,000. Not only did the number of rides increase, but the number of users also rose from 700 in 2023 to 826 in 2024.

Satisfaction survey

61 respondents participated in the satisfaction survey. Although the response was limited, the results are representative. 81% indicated they were satisfied to very satisfied. A large majority (64%) also considered the fee reasonable. There are some areas for improvement. About 30% of the users were dissatisfied with aspects such as maintenance, quality, and availability of the bikes. These comments will be taken into account for future improvements.

Usage

Specifically for Sittard-Geleen, we see that most users rent the bike individually (65%), followed by the use of the shared bike in combination with a train journey (48%).

Outlook for 2025

This year, Arriva is working on a few improvement points such as social return on investment (SROI) and the approach to maintenance, malfunctions, and emergencies. With these improvements, the evaluation for 2024 can be positively concluded, and we look forward to expanding the shared bike system with more bikes and bike stations in our municipality in 2025.
