BORN – King Willem-Alexander visited a site of the family-owned industrial company VDL on Thursday, according to the Government Information Service (RVD).
At this location, VDL manufactures equipment commissioned by the Ministry of Defence for the Dutch and Ukrainian armed forces.

Production chain converted

Where this VDL factory produced cars until 2024, it now manufactures drones, battery packs, and unmanned transport aircraft. During his visit, the King spoke with VDL's management about its cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the conversion of the production chain.
During a tour, Willem-Alexander visited the production lines for battery packs, drones, and unmanned vehicles. He also received an explanation of the production process for various types of drones.
The visit was not announced in advance. According to the RVD, this was due to commercially sensitive information and because the factory produces defence equipment that is also used by the Ukrainian armed forces under contract with the Ministry of Defence.
