ince 13 July, a code orange wildfire danger alert has been in effect in all Dutch provinces. Due to the persistent heat and drought, there is a high risk of wildfires.
If you are planning to visit natural areas, please exercise extra caution. Do not smoke in forests or nature reserves, do not light open fires, and keep a close eye on children. Also, do not leave any litter behind. Even a small piece of glass can generate enough heat in direct sunlight to ignite dry grass or leaves.
Heightened vigilance
Nature management organisations and the fire brigade are on heightened alert and are asking visitors to remain vigilant as well. If you see smoke or fire, call 112 immediately.
A useful tip is to install the 112 app on your smartphone. If you report an emergency through the app, the emergency dispatch centre automatically receives your location.
This can save valuable time by enabling emergency services to respond more quickly.
Together, we can help prevent wildfires. Enjoy nature but do so with extra attention to safety.
