GELEEN – Preparations for the fourth edition of the Cultural Festival Spectaculo are in full swing.
From Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, the centre of Geleen will once again serve as the backdrop for a diverse and lively programme filled with street theatre, music, and performance art. Admission to the festival is free for everyone.
Beating Heart
The beating heart of Spectaculo is the Market Square in Geleen, where visitors gather for special performances and unexpected encounters. The festive opening will take place on Friday evening, June 26, and already promises to be a highlight. The Limburg-based company Opera Compact will create a unique opening act especially for Spectaculo, inspired by the past, present, and future of Geleen.
Before this performance, The Diamond Baritones — known from appearances with Holland's Got Talent and André Rieu— will warm up the audience with a musical performance.
A mirror tent will be placed on the Market Square, hosting various performances throughout the weekend. In addition to the programme inside the mirror tent and on the square itself, performances will also take place at several locations in and around the city centre. The festival will expand to venues including the Burgemeester Damenpark, the Galfetti-building, Theater Karroessel, and possibly also the Saint Augustinus church. However, most of the programme will take place on the Market Square.
International street theatre
On Saturday and Sunday, Spectaculo will go all out with street theatre of international calibre. This year’s acts are larger and more spectacular. One of the featured groups is the renowned French company Compagnie La Meute, which will perform the closing act on the Market Square on both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Other performers coming to Geleen include the Argentine artist Adriano Cangemi, the French performer Immo Scholz, and the Belgian troupe TeaTime Compagnie.
Local talent
In addition to professional artists, Spectaculo also provides plenty of opportunities for local talent. Amateur artists from Sittard-Geleen will be given a stage, as will participants in talent development programmes through Toneelhuis Verenigt, a collaboration between Toneelhuis Limburg and Spectaculo. New and promising theatre makers from both The Netherlands and abroad will also have the opportunity to present themselves and further develop their work in Geleen.
With a mix of performances at various locations and a programme bringing together international, national, and regional talent, Spectaculo once again promises to be an inspiring and connecting cultural event.
