Fifth edition of Smokey South unites BBQ lovers from Limburg in Geleen

GELEEN – On Ascension Day, the Market Square in Geleen will once again transform into a paradise for barbecue fans during the fifth edition of Smokey South, the premier BBQ event of the southern Netherlands.

On Thursday, 14 May, from 12:00 to 8:00, visitors can enjoy a wide range of BBQ masterclasses, demonstrations, food trucks, live music, and competitions for both young and old.

The main attractions are the six exclusive masterclasses led by BBQ expert and chef Jord Althuizen and former butcher and head pitmaster Tim from Smokey Goodness. During these sessions, they will share their expertise on various barbecue and butchery techniques.

The programme includes award-winning spareribs, porchetta calabrese, pastel de nata pizzas, deboning half a pig, bog roast rolling techniques, and tips for making better burgers.

In addition to the masterclasses, the BBQ market offers plenty of inspiration for outdoor cooking enthusiasts. Visitors can attend demonstrations and discover the latest barbecue trends. BBQ cookbooks, sauces, rubs, knives, and various BBQ accessories will also be available.

Visitors to Smokey South can also take part in the popular hamburger competitions. Both children and adults will have the opportunity to present their ultimate burger creations to a professional jury. Registration is available through the event website, although participation is limited.

At the extensive food court, various food vendors will showcase their specialties. New this year is the food truck of De SmaakMakerij, where visitors can enjoy Limburg Livar monastery pork.

There will also be plenty of live entertainment. In collaboration with Brand Beer, several specialty beers will be available, while Dutch pop tribute and DoeMeDieMaar and Moris Muzic will provide live music throughout the day.
