The Energy Emergency Fund (Noodfonds Energie) will reopen. People who are having difficulties paying their energy bills will be able to apply for support from the fund starting early next year.
From December 1, people can contact the fund to ask questions and prepare their application. Applications can be submitted from January 4 through May 7. Applicants will then be informed within four to six weeks how much money they will receive and when they can expect it.

Higher network charges

Minister Hans Vijlbrief (Social Affairs and Employment) wants the higher network charges that will be charged in the new year to be taken into account so that people do not miss out on support. For many people, the higher network charges will result in higher energy bills.
The nearly €200 million available in the fund is intended for households with a low income and high energy bills. Vijlbrief expects that around 500,000 people will use the scheme. He emphasizes that everyone who is entitled to money from the fund will receive it.
People will receive at least €120 and at most €1,800 in total. In previous years, the Emergency Fund closed once its budget had been exhausted. That will not happen this time.

Application process

The application process will be made as simple as possible. People who are unable to submit an application digitally will be able to apply on paper.
People who want to receive updates about the Energy Emergency Fund can already leave their email address on the noodfondsenergie.nl website. They will receive a notification when the fund opens. The website also contains all the latest information.
The Emergency Fund is a temporary measure. The government's ultimate goal is to make people more resilient to rising energy prices. It is therefore focusing on long-term solutions, such as improving the energy efficiency of homes and reducing energy consumption.
