New Limburg public transport plan brings changes for Sittard-Geleen

SITTARD-GELEEN — Public transport in Sittard-Geleen will change starting December 13.

With the new timetable, Limburg Province and Arriva aim to better align public transport with passenger demand. In particular, more public transport will be available in various communities during the evenings and weekends.

For residents of Sittard-Geleen, the changes involving the Arriva Vlinder are particularly relevant. This small bus is used at times when regular bus services run less frequently.

The Vlinder Sittard operates on weekdays from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Several smaller communities will also benefit from the expansion. For the first time, Guttecoven, Einighausen, Berg aan de Maas, and Oud-Urmond will receive public transport in the evenings and on Sundays. Services using the Vlinder will also be expanded for Munstergeleen and Lindenheuvel.

The Vlinder operates by reservation. Passengers must book their journey in advance. This is to ensure that public transport remains accessible outside peak hours, particularly for residents who depend on bus services.

According to the Province of Limburg, the new transport plan will provide additional travel options in various parts of Limburg. In total, thousands of residents will gain access to a more extensive public transport network, particularly during evenings and weekends.

Arriva is also continuing to expand the number of electric buses in Limburg with 48 new electric regular buses and 10 small electric vehicles. This will bring the total number of electric buses in Limburg to 149, representing approximately 70% of the entire fleet.

The new timetable was developed using, among other things, passenger insights, data analysis, and discussions with municipalities and other stakeholders. Passengers can plan their journeys in advance using the Arriva app or the Arriva website.
