Quarry 't Rooth is a unique spot; nature development and marl extraction go hand in hand here.
Following the marl extraction, the quarry is being redeveloped, leading to a unique natural landscape that has now been designated as a protected natural monument.
The redeveloped part of the Groeve 't Rooth quarry has grown into a unique area after the marl excavations, where rare plants and animal species have developed particularly well. The yellow-bellied toad is the most well-known example. Flora and fauna are given all the space that they need to develop naturally.
A herd of Dutch land goats and some Konik horses ensure natural grazing of 't Rooth.
On Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 14, ‘Het Limburgs Landschap’ (The Limburg Landscape, a nature conservation organisation) is organising excursions in Groeve 't Rooth near Bemelen, starting at 10:00 AM. The quarry is only accessible during public excursions organised by ‘Het Limburgs Landschap’. The excursions last about 2 hours. More information about participation and ticket reservations can be found at: limburgs-landschap.nl/kalender.
