His Majesty King Willem-Alexander Willem-Alexander will officially open Sportpark Glanerbrook in Sittard-Geleen on June 25. The multi-sport complex has been completely renovated over the past three years.
"It is a tremendous honour that the King is coming to Glanerbrook for the opening," said Mayor Hans Verheijen. "We are extremely happy and proud that this beautiful, future-proof sports complex has drawn his attention. Glanerbrook stands for a green setting, connection, and health — values that our municipality proudly promote."

Modern multi-sport park

Glanerbrook represents the largest investment in sports facilities in the history of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen, with a total investment of €80 million. The renovated complex has developed into a modern multi-sport park with cross-border appeal throughout the Euregion and provides facilities for both elite and recreational sports.
Alderman Leon Geilen emphasised the significance of the complex:
"Glanerbrook is unique within the Euregion. Here, we combine swimming, skating, and other sports — both indoors and outdoors — at one location. This allows us to provide our residents, sports clubs, and elite athletes with excellent facilities for sports and social interaction."

Public park

The sports park includes a 50-metre competition swimming pool with seating for 500 spectators, an ice stadium with a capacity for approximately 1,350 visitors, a covered 400-metre skating track and two sports halls. There is also ample space for recreation, including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a cycling track, and a public park designed to encourage physical activity.

Sustainability

Sustainability plays a central role in the project. Sportpark Glanerbrook is energy-neutral and gas-free, and features more than 5,200 solar panels, smart energy storage systems, and charging facilities for electric vehicles. This makes the complex well prepared for the future.

Large-scale renovation

The renovated sports park is located in the green Burgemeester Damenpark and serves as a place where sports, recreation, and social interaction come together for residents and visitors from the entire region.
The official opening on June 25 marks the completion of a major redevelopment project that has been carried out in phases since 2023. Since April 2026, the entire complex has been fully operational.
