Optisport new operator of Glanerbrook Sports Park

Starting Friday, May 1, Glanerbrook Sports Park will have a new operator. Following a careful tender process, the municipality of Sittard-Geleen has selected Optisport Exploitations B.V., which will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the sports complex for the next thirteen years.

Two parties submitted bids in the tender. Both met the quality requirements, but Optisport offered the best price-quality ratio. The annual bid amount of €300,039 played an important role in this decision.

Alderman Leon Geilen is pleased with the outcome of the tender: “Based on an external expert’s report, we had anticipated a municipal contribution of €865,000 per year. The fact that it can now be done for €565,000 less, without any concessions, is of course good news for everyone.”

The municipality’s Programme of Requirements includes several guarantees that are important for clubs and visitors. For example, there will be fixed schedules and clear pricing schemes for sports clubs. A single-entry ticket may cost a maximum of €8.50 in 2026, just like now, with only a limited annual increase.

Optisport also intends to invest further in the quality of the sports park. The company promises a wide range of activities, strong attention to inclusion, close cooperation with local partners such as Ecsplore, and a healthy, accessible catering facility.

With these ambitions, Alderman Andries Houtakkers is optimistic about the future:“At Glanerbrook, everything comes together: sports at all levels, physical activity, and green space. It offers something for everyone and creates opportunities for everyone to participate in sports. A sports facility to be proud of.”

The current staff of Sportfondsen (LACO) will be transferred to Optisport under the Transfer of Undertakings legislation, retaining their employment conditions. Employees of the swimming pools Het Anker and De Nieuwe Hateboer will also have the opportunity to transfer to Optisport.

Optisport is required (until Thursday, April 30, 2026) to offer these employees permanent contracts in accordance with the collective labour agreement for swimming pools.
