Sittard city centre opens its doors to innovators
The city centre of Sittard is set for a boost. With the funding scheme for Innovative Entrepreneurship, the municipality of Sittard-Geleen is encouraging new and distinctive concepts in leisure, hospitality, and retail.
The focus is on ideas that not only offer products, but also create experiences and make the city centre more attractive for residents and visitors alike.
Funding in addition to own investment
Entrepreneurs can receive funding of up to €50,000, provided they themselves invest at least €30,000. To obtain the maximum amount of funding, an investment of €100,000 is required. In addition to financial support, the scheme offers professional guidance through an appointed advisory party, ensuring that plans are actually realised.
Which concepts or ideas will soon transform the streetscape? That remains a surprise for the municipality.
“We want to give space to creativity and courage,” says Yvonne Salvino, Chief Executive for Economic Affairs. “It is precisely that sense of excitement and the unknown that makes the centre of Sittard a place where dreams come true.”
Clear conditions
A solid business plan, a lease agreement of at least two years or purchase of the premises, and collaboration with two local entrepreneurs are required. The funding ceiling for 2026 is €100,000. With this, the municipality aims to bring two to six distinctive concepts to the city centre - initiatives that will attract visitors and ensure a future-proof city centre.
The funding scheme can be viewed on the municipality’s website. Applications can be submitted from 1 January 2026 via the application form at sittard-geleen.nl.
